Quest Software release protects against storage data loss and cyberattacks
Quest Software Inc. today released a new version of its software-defined secondary storage solution that protects against data loss and cyberattacks.
QoreStor v7.2 has been designed to address the issue where the exponential growth of data has caused information technology organizations to spend more on backup storage, reduce how often they run backups, or leave some data unprotected. Added into the mix is an increasing number of cyberattacks where attackers target backups to prevent organizations from performing data recovery after an attack.
The latest version of QoreStor includes upgraded Object Container storage technology to allow object locking and versioning control, along with added support for generic Amazon Web Services Inc. S3-based data workflows. QoreStor v7.2 has also gained support for Veeam v12 direct-to-object backups, providing data deduplication, compression, encryption and object locking for ransomware protection and recovery.
Designed to work with most backup solutions. QoreStor accelerates backup and recovery performance while reducing storage requirements and costs for storage on-premises and in the cloud. The service enables the use of public clouds for backup, disaster recovery and long-term data retention.
QoreStor v7.2 also sees the introduction of multicloud capabilities to the service’s Cloud Tier, with support for multiple cloud providers in a single instance. The company said the new feature allows data to be dispersed or easily moved to an alternate cloud storage vendor based on an organization’s needs.
Coming into the launch of v7.2, Quest claims that in testing, managed service providers were able to use the new release to increase profitability by cutting data protection storage requirements and associated costs.
“QoreStor is a game changer for organizations struggling with the challenges of exponential data growth and the increasing risk of cyberattacks,” Heath Thompson, Quest’s president and general manager of information and systems management, said ahead of the release. “QoreStor provides a comprehensive solution that protects against data loss and cyber threats while also reducing storage costs, improving backup and recovery performance and ensuring business resilience.”
Quest, which was once a business unit of Dell Technologies Inc., has been owned by private equity firm Clearlake since 2021. The reported acquisition price was $5.4 billion.
