AI in cloud-native technology is changing. Platformitization is happening across several industries.

Platform9 Systems Inc., a company that helps organizations create cloud-native environments on various infrastructures, is making headway into providing managed services for clients deploying Kubernetes, according to Chris Jones (pictured), business development manager at Platform9 Systems Inc.

“It’s data center modernization, application modernization,” Jones said. “That’s one area that we’re focusing heavily on. Another is retail edge and leveraging orchestration capabilities to do bare metal management in any location but particularly in the retail area where modernizing that in-store experience means transforming the compute layer that’s there. The third area is AI and ML, and that’s an area that I’ve been spending a lot of time working.”

Jones spoke with theCUBE industry analysts John Furrier and Rob Strechay at Open Source Summit NA, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed platforming of the industry through Kubernetes and how artificial intelligence and machine learning advances are making strides in managed systems.

There has to be another way

The availability of resources is hurting businesses in the long run. Companies find themselves asking, “Can I do this elsewhere?”  

“That’s where that MLOps thing is coming in,” Jones said. “But I think a lot of organizations might be fearful that there’s a lot they need to do. IKEA’s done basically an MVP, and they’re like, ‘Now we have to start scaling this.’ They’ve done a lot of that hard work, so it is achievable.”

Several providers are consistent and eager to maintain the ways of old, suggesting to not move on the wave of change but rather utilize the antiquated systems that will soon be obsolete. This makes businesses fall short on their end goals and where time is being spent versus where it could be spent.

Jones believes that an unconventional spark may happen “when they realize their teams are spending too much time building Kubernetes platforms and cloud-native infrastructure when they should be helping them launch new applications and hit their business objectives.”
