Alteryx integrates generative AI to power advanced data analytics insights and workflows

Big-data company Alteryx Inc. said today it has created a new artificial intelligence, machine learning and generative AI engine for the Alteryx Analytics Cloud Platform to accelerate customer’s efficiency and productivity.

At its annual user conference Inspire 2023, the company revealed Alteryx AiDIN as a new platform that combines the power of Alteryx Analytics outputs with generative AI and large language models to “supercharge the democratization of analytics and dissemination of insights across the organization.”

Alteryx is best known for its extract, transform and load, or ETL, tools. They’re used by enterprises to prepare massive volumes of data for analysis. The company’s Analytics Cloud platform provides baked-in connectivity to business intelligence tools such as Experian and Tableau, and features capabilities around data cleansing, data mining and geospatial analytics.

Alteryx AiDIN extends the capabilities of Alteryx Analytics Cloud, leveraging the power of generative AI to deliver a new automatic insights feature called Magic Document. With this, Alteryx can generate smarter, in-context data visualization summaries, as well as PowerPoint presentations, based on a given set of data.

Another new feature is Workflow Summary for Alteryx Designer, a data preparation tool, which enables users to document their business processes in natural language for governance and auditability purposes.

Alteryx AiDIN also powers a new feature called the OpenAI Connector, which makes it possible to integrate generative AI within Alteryx Designer workflows. Using a drag-and-drop tool, customers will be able to create compelling natural language presentations based on specific datasets, transforming how users can present and share data, the company said.

“With generative AI, users unlock an entirely new way of using insights to transform their business and solve their biggest challenges,” promised Alteryx Chief Product Officer Suresh Vittal.

Holger Mueller of Constellation Research Inc. said that although generative AI infusions are commonplace nowadays as every company is trying to cash in on the trend, it’s interesting to see it being applied to data operations.

“Data operations is an area that hasn’t shown a great deal of innovation lately,” Mueller pointed out. “As such, it’s nice to see Alteryx coming up with a genuinely new use case that leverages the capabilities of generative AI to help business users better understand data-driven insights. It’s a promising new feature that many will feel is worth exploring.”

Also at Inspire, Alteryx announced a major update to its Analytics Cloud Platform, including new location intelligence capabilities that support spatial analytics. With this, users can now visualize and analyze spatial data more easily to identify patterns and trends that remain hidden in traditional spreadsheets, the company said. They’ll be able to uncover location-based insights to improve customer experiences and business efficiency.

The Analytics Cloud Platform also benefits from enhanced governance designed to make analytics more scalable, ensuring users can access insights from their data faster with improved control and reduced risk, the company said.
