In the ever-evolving landscape of technology, Dell Technologies Inc. looks to push the boundaries of innovation, claiming customer-centricity and a commitment to industrialization.
Key insights emerged regarding Dell’s approach to innovation, the convergence of artificial intelligence and edge computing, the concept of a “supercloud” and the importance of a horizontal platform, during theCUBE’s interview with Jeff Clarke (pictured), chief operating officer and vice chairman of Dell, at Dell Technologies World.
“I just went through a series of things that we’ve built, all culminating into ultimately turning into what we said we’re gonna do last year into real products and offers, which to me is the real testament that the say-do ratio is where we want it,” Clarke said when asked about the progress Dell has made over the years.
Clarke spoke with theCUBE industry analysts Dave Vellante and Lisa Martin at Dell Technologies World, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed Dell’s leadership principles, its native edge solution and the potential future convergence of edge and internet of things security. (* Disclosure below.)
Innovation has been a driving force at Dell. Clarke highlighted the company’s recent achievements, especially its commitment to forward-thinking and setting new industry standards. This shift in approach has enabled Dell to launch over 120 products in the past year and maintain a strong innovation flywheel.
Dell’s direct sales force and partner network play a crucial role in fueling this innovation flywheel. The advantage of having extensive customer touchpoints provide valuable insights and drive product development, which Dell turns into product features and capabilities, Clarke explained. Furthermore, Dell’s close alignment with customers helps them address specific problems and commit to solving them through its innovative solutions.
Project Helix, Dell’s collaboration with Nvidia Corp., highlighted the transformative power of AI and the importance of assisting customers in building the infrastructure required for AI deployment. Project Helix aims to simplify AI adoption by creating blueprints and validated designs, leveraging Dell’s service capabilities and Nvidia ‘s expertise.
“This AI thing … isn’t going away; it’s here to stay. We think it’s as transformative and maybe the most transformative technology that I’ve seen in my 36 years, whether that be the PC, whether that be the phone or the internet,” Clarke said, regarding AI and Dell’s partnership with Nvidia.
The unique challenges and opportunities presented by edge computing, where the physical and digital worlds converge, was also touched on by Clarke. Dell’s approach allows it to deliver a software stack that facilitates device deployment, management and provisioning, ensuring a secure and unified experience for customers. Dell’s focus on horizontal solutions aligns with its proven ability to industrialize and scale offerings effectively.
Dell has a commitment to innovation, especially when it comes to the importance of customer insights and the future of technologies such as edge computing and AI. Dell’s innovation engine, coupled with its customer-centric approach, positions the company to drive transformative change in the industry. With a strong focus on horizontal solutions and a vision for convergence, Dell continues to push the boundaries of technology and empower organizations to thrive in the digital era, according to Clarke.
“We do not do well when we build very specific, what we call snowflake solutions,” he explained. “No two are the same. We’re much better when we industrialize things and go horizontal and get the scale out of that and abstract the problem at that layer. That’s sort of where we’ve historically played, and we will continue to play. It serves us well.”
