Applications are continuing to move from process-centric to data-centric, meaning that rather than data being locked inside applications in silos, the business logic will be embedded in the data and organizations will begin to build data apps.
AtScale Inc. was one of the first independent semantic layers for data and analytics, and in the past few years, there’s been a huge surge of interest, according to Chris Lynch (pictured), executive chairman and chief executive officer of AtScale.
“When I say that we are the only universal semantic layer, what I mean is we’re multicloud, we’re multi-vendor and we support on-prem as well as cloud,” Lynch said. “We can deliver the value of the semantic layer in any of those forms, and no one else on the planet can do that.”
Lynch spoke with industry analyst Dave Vellante during an interview on SiliconANGLE media’s livestreaming studio theCUBE. They discussed how AtScale delivers its semantic layer, how AI will supplement the product and how data will fit into the future.
Artificial intelligence is the leading player in technological innovations today, lending its impressive uses to industries across the spectrum. Foundation models such as ChatGPT, which can write code, will actually benefit the semantic.
“Everything’s fed into the semantic,” Lynch said. “To the extent that technology matures and broadens in its capability, it’s only going to empower the semantic layer, which in turn is going to power everybody with the BI tool [to get] the benefit of that technology.”
The big data wave has hit the digital landscape, and with data being king, applications and semantics like AtScale will continue to offer valuable and critical services for all businesses, regardless of industry, according to Lynch.
“Anything that has an electrode run through it is creating data. People create data. We’re always going to have more people,” he said. “We’re always going to have more things that are turned on that emit data. So, the world of data never goes away.”
