In a world where software is revolutionizing every industry, developers hold the key to unlocking innovation and transforming businesses.
MongoDB Inc. understands the pivotal role of developers and has set out on a mission to empower them. With a focus on simplifying data management and providing a comprehensive platform, it’s taking its show on the road, engaging with customers globally and bringing its flagship event closer to developers.
“Everything we do starts and stops with developers in terms of making their lives easy,” said Dev Ittycheria (pictured), chief executive officer of MongoDB.
Ittycheria spoke with theCUBE industry analyst John Furrier at the MongoDB .local NYC event, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed MongoDB’s journey, its commitment to developers and the future of its platform in empowering coders worldwide. (* Disclosure below.)
MongoDB recognizes the importance of engaging with its diverse customer base on a global scale. To achieve this, the company has decided to take its flagship event on a multi-city tour, spanning 26 cities around the world. By reaching out to customers in cities such as Sydney, Sao Paulo, Milan, Frankfurt, Tel Aviv and London, the company aims to establish stronger connections and revitalize in-person interactions, providing a refreshing change from the virtual landscape.
The anticipation for the tour is palpable, according to Ittycheria, and it’s evident that the team at MongoDB is fully dedicated to creating a dynamic and impactful journey for everyone involved.
“People are a little tired of the Zoom world, so having in-person interactions, connections, rebuilding old networks is going to be great,” Ittycheria said.
At the heart of MongoDB’s strategy lies a deep commitment to developers. It recognizes that developers are key to driving the software industry and building intelligent applications.
Data plays a pivotal role in the workflow of developers. MongoDB aims to simplify the complex task of working with data, enabling developers to be more productive and make a significant impact. The company’s focus on providing a developer data platform, rather than just a point solution or analytical tool, sets it apart in a world where platforms are rapidly emerging, according to Ittycheria.
“Depending on the application that they’re building, they could spend between 30 to 70% of the time just working with data,” he said. “If you want to make them incredibly productive and make a big impact, it’s all about making it easy to work with data. So, our whole raison d’être is to be able to simplify working with data. We started with the document database, and now it’s with the developer data platform.”
MongoDB initially focused on proving its capabilities as a reliable database for mission-critical workloads. Subsequently, it expanded into the cloud and established itself as a global distributed data platform that seamlessly runs across major cloud providers. Now, MongoDB is entering a new chapter by building out its platform, catering to the growing demands of developers who seek advanced functionalities, such as stream processing and AI-based applications.
“I would love to use MongoDB for other use cases,” Ittycheria said. “So we slowly added more and more capabilities, so that as people think about building really sophisticated applications — and now even AI-based applications — they will think about MongoDB first as a place to build those applications. And that’s what we want developers to think about.”
As the software industry evolves, MongoDB’s vision is to be the preferred choice for developers worldwide when building modern applications. The company aims to enable developers to create intelligent, AI-enabled applications by offering a unified platform that simplifies data management, streamlines workflows and fosters innovation. With a customer-centric approach and a commitment to long-term relationships, MongoDB is poised to continue its growth and become a leading force in the developer data platform space, according to Ittycheria.
“We feel like we are building a very healthy long-term business but doing it in a very disciplined manner,” he said.
