Egress enhances email security with adaptive threat protection

Security startup Egress Software Technologies Ltd. today announced the launch of an adaptive security model for its Intelligent Email Security platform that provides dynamic and automated protection against advanced inbound and outbound threats.

The adaptive security model is designed to evaluate human risk at the individual user level and modifies enforcement protocols based on the risk identified. In doing so, the company’s platform ensures that an organization’s email security is continually responsive to the evolving risk landscape, providing adaptability that mirrors the constantly changing nature of a given organization’s risk profile.

The service from Egress uses a composite of data inputs to generate individual risk scores. It integrates telemetry, open-source intelligence, behavioral data and threat data from third-party security applications via an open application programming interface. When this risk score crosses a defined threshold, the Intelligent Email Security platform dynamically adapts its controls to defend against phishing, human error and data exfiltration.

Egress argues that its adaptive security model offers many advantages. The service amplifies inbound and outbound email security by actively managing human risk, with controls automatically adjusted based on where the risk is greatest. The service provides an instantaneous response as individual risk scores rise or fall, ensuring real-time security enforcement. The service is also said to remove the burden of administrative management by automatically applying tailored security controls based on real-time data analysis.

The platform provides superior visibility into threat trends with actionable insights and recommendations, according to the company. The service also elevates security awareness among users with real-time “nudges,” including dynamic, color-coded banners and configurable prompts tailored to each individual’s risk level.

“Almost every organization freely admits that people represent the biggest risk to their security and are most vulnerable when using email,” Egress Chief Executive Officer Tony Pepper said in a statement. “By implementing an adaptive security architecture, we can continually assess human risk on a per-user basis and automatically dial enforcement up or down depending on the level of the potential threat.”

The adaptive security feature is now available globally to all organizations, with existing Egress customers obtaining access to the upgrade at no extra charge.
