“We’ve obviously been talking a lot about AI and generative AI over the last year,” Doerr said. “If you can make it so the human is doing things that humans are good at and let the computers do the things that they’re good at, the rote tasks, the automated tasks, there’s a big benefit.”

Doerr spoke with theCUBE industry analysts Rebecca Knight and Rob Strechay at the mWISE Conference, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. Breaking down barriers: The Google and Mandiant integration

The Google and Mandiant collaboration aims to harness the collective threat intelligence knowledge of both organizations and leverage it through the Chronicle Security Operations platform. This approach enables automatic detection of malicious activities and rapid response to security incidents. What sets this integration apart is its ability to bridge the gap between the historically slow-paced world of cybersecurity and the demands of the modern threat landscape, according to Doerr.

“We’ve been laser-focused, particularly on the things we’ve been building at Google,” he said. “As we’ve made these acquisitions and take the amazing IP and technology and expertise that we’ve gotten from these acquisitions, how do you fuse it together into something that’s truly unique but really focused on upleveling the defender and helping them do their job better, helping them be safer.”

The speed and effectiveness of this collaboration brings together the best of Google and Mandiant to solve real-world security challenges. The integration isn’t solely about serving sophisticated customers; it’s about addressing the broader global need for improved security. In an era of increasing cyberthreats and geopolitical tensions, the integration seeks to enhance security postures across the board, according to Doerr.

“Parts of the world aren’t satisfied with their existing security setup,” he said. “And you’ve got an increasingly hostile geopolitical landscape [and] proliferation of cybercrime. It’s a tough world to defend against. We’re certainly hoping to help a lot of our customers do a lot better.”

Simplifying security in a complex landscape

The average security job is often burdened with repetitive manual tasks, leading to dissatisfaction among security professionals. Additionally, the industry faces a shortage of cybersecurity talent, with millions of open positions remaining unfilled.

To address these challenges, generative AI has been introduced as part of the solution. By automating routine tasks and allowing humans to focus on tasks that require creativity and expertise, gen AI has the potential to make security professionals more productive and fill the talent gap, according to Doerr.

“There’s just a tremendous opportunity there. And generative AI is a piece of that puzzle,” he added.
