Cloud incident response company Mitiga Security Inc. today announced that Cisco Investments, the investment arm of Cisco Systems Inc., has made a strategic investment in the company to support greater market adoption among enterprises seeking modern security solutions for their cloud and software-as-a-service environments.
Founded in 2019, Mitiga offers a cloud and SaaS incident platform called IR2 that performs continuous hunts for emerging attacks based on a cloud attack scenario library, a database dedicated to cloud and SaaS multi-vector hunts. When a breach is detected, IR2 provides instant answers to breach-related questions by proactively gathering, organizing and analyzing forensic-level data.
Mitiga’s IR2 platform includes deep knowledge of the specialized capabilities required for cloud incident response and is supported by a team of incident responders who help customers through unlimited investigation support.
“Incident response traditionally is something very reactive and only after something has happened do you call for help when you need it — and usually, you only call for help after something has become a breach,” co-founder and Chief Executive Tal Mozes told SiliconANGLE in an interview in March. “What we’re trying to do is to help completely reinvent incident response with only one goal in mind, which is how to help customers downsize the impact of the breach, because breaches are inevitable, but crises are avoidable.”
Cloud investigation and response automation, as used by the IR2 platform, was named by Gartner in June as “an emerging technology that forensically collects, analyzes and applies analytics and machine learning on cloud and various forensic data sources.” Mitiga says it’s the industry’s only complete CIRA solution to simplify and accelerate cloud and SaaS breach investigations, offering cloud-driven companies a new level of cyber and organizational resilience.
“Today, incident response needs to deliver faster response times, reduced investigation overhead and continuous attack detection,” Mozes said in a statement. “We look forward to working with Cisco to continue delivering modern solutions that help companies minimize the impact of inevitable cloud and SaaS-related breaches.”
The amount Cisco invested in Mitiga was not disclosed. The company previously raised $45 million in funding. Previous investors in the company include ClearSky Security Inc., Samsung Next Corp., Blackstone Inc., Atlantic Bridge Ventures LLC and DNX Ventures LLC.
