Security governance startup Gutsy.io Inc. today launched with $51 million in funding and a product that’s claimed to revolutionize security governance with process mining.
Founded by cybersecurity veterans and serial entrepreneurs Ben Bernstein, Dima Stopel and John Morello, Gutsy’s solution applies process mining, a data-driven approach to process analysis and improvement, to cybersecurity for what it says is the first time.
By applying process mining to cybersecurity, Gutsy’s platform delivers automatic, data-driven insight into how an organization’s teams, tools and processes work together and what outcomes they deliver. The platform has been designed to provide security leaders with the data and understanding to answer complex questions and make good decisions.
Gutsy says it’s helping chief information security officers on how various aspects of cybersecurity policy work together, identifying friction, removing delays and reducing risk. The service allows security leaders to define key performance indicators across all their security functions, automatically measure performance and instantly drill into what outcomes they’re getting and why.
The platform provides auditing processes, automatically gathering data about every execution of every process, correlating activity across complex workflows to help security organizations find the “unknown unknowns.”
It also helps leaders reduce risk from strategic projects like cloud migration, managed services adoption and deploying new security tools. Gutsy provides comparative insights centered around how changes are operationalized so that return on investment can be measured and investments aligned with best practices and standards.
“Customers often tell us they have 80 or 100 different security tools, but they consider less than half of them to be well-operationalized, so they struggle to get the outcomes they need,” said co-founder Bernstein, who also serves as chief executive of Gutsy. “That’s because security is more than just tools; it’s people, process, and technology.”
But today, he added, “security processes are more complex and opaque than ever. Gutsy revolutionizes governance by taking a process and outcome-focused perspective, helping you understand how all the pieces work together, what results you’re delivering, and why you’re getting them.”
YL Ventures LLC and Mayfield Fund Inc. led the seed round, with various cybersecurity executives and founders also participating. The list of individual investors includes George Kurtz, CEO of CrowdStrike Holdings Inc. CEO George Kurtz, Rain Capital Ltd. Managing Partner Chenxi Wang, Transmit Security Inc. CEO Mickey Boodaei, CyberArk Software Ltd. founder Udi Modaky and Wiz Inc. CEO Assaf Rappaport.
