Project Fort Zero brings an end-to-end, zero-trust cyber approach for enterprises

The zero-trust cybersecurity approach implies the assumption of imminent threats, even when there aren’t obvious indicators of such. It allows companies to be proactive and agile in their cyber operations.

Aimed at providing a one-stop solution for end-to-end zero trust strategy and implementation, Project Fort Zero is designed to tackle the emergent challenges organizations face in an increasingly complex cyber environment.

“What’s happening is that [zero trust] is a collection of best practices,” said Herb Kelsey (pictured), Project Fort Zero lead at Dell Technologies Inc. “That’s why we need an ecosystem — you need to be able to bring all of those capabilities together and make sure that they’re integrated at the same time and inter-operating, working together to bring about the security that zero trust promises for an organization. For now, it’s been looking at all of our capabilities internally and making sure that we’re supporting a zero-trust framework.”

Kelsey spoke with theCUBE industry analyst Dave Vellante at the Cyber Resiliency Summit, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed the project’s genesis, its alignment with the zero-trust framework and its role in easing the burden on cybersecurity practitioners. (* Disclosure below.)

Building a cyber resiliency ecosystem

Recognizing the complexity of cybersecurity and the need for collaboration, building an ecosystem of partners is key for a project such as Project Fort Zero. So, the security solution aims to bring together various stakeholders to tackle the challenges posed by the zero-trust framework.

This initiative is not just about Dell. It involves over 35 partners, creating a collaborative effort to operationalize and implement the model effectively, according to Kelsey.

“As we looked at that landscape, we made the decision again with Project Fort Zero that we were going to take on the integration burden [and] build the relationships with each of the companies that we needed to meet the needs of the zero-trust solution and that we would do the integration,” he said.

With the project taking on such a broad scope, its objective is to address integration burdens and talent gaps, supporting both private and public sector customers.
