BIG DATA

Jetic debuts simpler, cloud-native integration platform based on Apache Camel

Cloud-native integration platform-as-a-service provider Jetic has announced the general availability of its flagship product, helping application developers tame the explosion of big data without worrying about vendor lock-in.

The startup, officially known as Datagrate Inc., said it’s launching today after spending more than three years to build out and fine-tune what it claims is among the most robust and reliable integration platforms available. With its offering, developers have a simple way to engineer, deliver and maintain scalable application programming interfaces and integrations using hundreds of pre-built data connectors and patterns.

Jetic’s integration platform can be used by developers to combine and harmonize data from multiple sources into a unified, coherent format, so it can be used by a range of applications for analytics, operational and decision-making purposes.

It’s sorely needed because data is often described as the “new oil,” and most applications need to draw on information from a variety of sources to function correctly, including databases, spreadsheets, APIs, cloud services and other apps. The challenge is that this data is often stored in different formats and locations, making it hard to access.

Jetic cites a study by International Data Group Inc. and TeamDynamics that shows how 89% of organizations struggle with data and system integration challenges. Application integration is a complex, expensive and incomplete process, with many existing offerings being unable to handle the long tail of data connectors. In order to solve these headaches, Jetic’s platform makes it simple for developers to build custom data connectors so they can easily tap into modern, custom and legacy systems.

Jetic’s platform does so in a way that avoids vendor lock-in. That’s because it leverages the open-source cloud orchestration software Kubernetes, which gives it the ability to lift and shift workloads from any location. In addition, it relies on the open-source Apache Camel framework, which simplifies the process of integrating applications, systems and data sources through a range of pre-built components, connectors and patterns, with its domain-specific language for defining integration routes and rules.

With Jetic, developers build integrations in Camel Studio, an interactive drag-and-drop environment that provides access to hundreds of components to quickly integrate with common data sources. Camel Studio also provides various resources to help developers configure their integrations, including databases, Salesforce connections and custom files. The beauty of Camel Studio is that there’s no need to write any integration code, since all of the integrations they build within it are automatically converted into ready-to-deploy Camel DSL code that runs natively within Kubernetes.

Integrations are then connected to the user’s Kubernetes cluster via Camel Bridge, and Jetic also provides tools to monitor both the integrations and the data flowing through them to ensure no disruption. “Jetic represents a paradigm shift in cloud-native integration, offering a transformative platform that empowers development teams while eliminating the constraints of costly vendor lock-ins,” said co-founder and Chief Executive Andre Sluczka.

Jetic said its platform caters to multiple common integration scenarios, including real-time integration, API management, serverless platforms, event streaming, data capture and data transformation.
