Votiro’s new platform offers unified protection against file-borne cyberthreats

Zero-trust content security startup Votiro Cybersec Ltd. today announced the launch of its unified platform to provide data detection and response that combines real-time cybersecurity for data privacy and threat protection.

Data detection and response is a cybersecurity approach focused on identifying, analyzing and responding to threats targeting sensitive and regulated data within an organization, ensuring its privacy and compliance. The company’s new platform extends DDR to protect the privacy of the data contained within files as it travels throughout an organization.

Votiro argues that as businesses ingest and share more data, sensitive enterprise data and personally identifiable information often travel through poorly secured channels, including collaboration tools, cloud storage systems, customer-facing portals and shadow information technology, significantly increasing the risk of data exposure or compromise and jeopardizing compliance with data privacy regulations. Added into the mix is the proliferation of generative artificial intelligence, with companies ingesting vast amounts of unstructured and untrusted data.

With its new platform, Votiro says, it’s going above and beyond disarming and preventing file-borne threats by detecting and responding to data privacy compromises before they occur. With the platform, it claims, enterprises can simplify compliance efforts and maintain an always-compliant posture.

“Enterprises must allow safe, unstructured data to flow freely, analyze inbound files and content and adopt generative AI-enabled applications without business disruptions,” said Chief Executive Ravi Srinivasan. “The convergence of threat protection and data security is critical for enterprises to be able to achieve this.”

The new capabilities automatically detect and respond to incoming file-borne threats, ensuring that users comply with privacy regulations for data in transit or leveraged in generative AI applications. Analytics in the new platform provide details related to how and when files and data are shared and continue to adhere to zero trust principles.

Other features of Votiro’s DDR platform include the ability to identify and safeguard PII and sensitive enterprise data, with alerting of any data-related threats anywhere they occur, with continuous monitoring. Proactive threat detection and prevention scans for known and unknown threats within incoming content and detects them before they reach the endpoint and form a preventative response to incidents.

Users can also leverage Votiro’s intelligent disarming capability, which moves the malicious file through its sanitization engine to be reconstructed into a safe, fully functional file. The reconstructed files can be opened, edited and saved without risk of malware penetration.

The platform further provides actionable insights into suspicious file content, true-typing, macro analysis and external links to give organizations real-time, accurate analysis. The analytics provided can include a list of employees who send and receive the most PII, the type of privacy information exposed and the most targeted employees who receive malicious files. The service also provides the methodology the threat actor is using, the top malicious file formats, common time periods the organization receives suspicious files and insight into where PII and files travel throughout an organization.

Votiro is a venture capital-backed startup, having raised $32.5 million to date, according to Tracxn, including a round of $11.5 million in March 2023. Investors include Harvest Lane Asset Management LLC, Senetas Corp. Ltd., Divergent Group LLC and Redfield Asset Management Ltd.
