New CodeOps methodology seeks to streamline application development through code reuse

Code reuse platform startup Crowdbotics Inc. today introduced CodeOps, a new methodology in software development that emphasizes systematic code reuse powered by artificial intelligence, aiming to establish it as a standard in the industry.

This approach acts as a complement to DevSecOps and focuses on leveraging reusable code for commonly duplicated features and functionalities. Doing so, the company says, allows developers to concentrate on creating innovative solutions while saving time and money and reducing risk.

CodeOps seeks to address an intensified focus on increasing efficiency and productivity at a time when businesses are under pressure to justify new tech spending while seeking to derive as much value as possible from their existing technology investments. CodeOps addresses these challenges with a new methodology and technological approach to deliver systematic code reuse that allows businesses to bring software to market faster and at lower costs than traditional methods.

A core principle of CodeOps is that code reuse begins with requirements, as Crowdbotics argues that waiting until the development phase inevitably leads to failure. Using CodeOps, business stakeholders and the development team are in better sync and a solid foundation is also laid out, enabling systematic code reuse.

CodeOps uses artificial intelligence to match defined requirements directly with reusable code modules and to assemble those code modules into a nearly complete application. This allows teams to move from idea to spec and then from spec to code at a record pace, with AI paired with the new CodeOps methodology, the company says.

The methodology has four fundamental tenets, as outlined in the CodeOps Manifesto. The first is embracing and extending existing code, allowing businesses to reuse and modularize existing code while treating every project as an opportunity to build upon what already exists. The approach is claimed to foster efficiency, reduce redundancy and accelerate development.

CodeOps offers seamless integration with DevOps to enhance DevOps processes without disruption by leveraging current infrastructure and workflows to ensure a natural and progressive adoption for DevOps practitioners.

Third on the manifesto is maintaining a balance between AI and human ingenuity. AI plays a crucial role in generating and identifying code, while human creativity augments projects, offering a balance that ensures that AI serves not as a crutch but as a catalyst for innovation and efficiency. The last tenet is titled “Success Starts with the Idea, not the Code,” with the belief that beginning a project with a reuse mindset sets the foundation for maximizing reuse.

“In parallel with the current AI revolution, we believe that CodeOps represents a paradigm shift that dramatically improves the process of building enterprise software,” said founder and Chief Executive Anand Kulkarni.

Crowdbotics is a venture capital-backed startup, having last raised $40 million in funding in January 2023. Investors include New Enterprise Associates Inc., Jackson Square Ventures LLC, Homebrew Management LLC, Bee Partners LP and Harrison Metal LLC.
