Sorenson Capital leads $7.95M seed investment in cyberthreat intelligence provider VulnCheck
Cyberthreat intelligence provider VulnCheck Inc. today announced that it has closed its seed round with $7.95 million in funding, including an additional $4.75 million in funding on top of its original raise of $3.2 million in February.
Founded in 2021, VulnCheck offers a cyberthreat intelligence platform that provides exploit and vulnerability intelligence directly into the tools, processes, programs and systems that need the data to outpace adversaries. The company’s platform uses vulnerability intelligence that predicts avenues of attack and prioritizes vulnerabilities that matter based on the threat landscape, enabling businesses to take quick action before an attack.
VulnCheck services includes NVD++, a community service that provides members with a reliable, high-performance source of National Vulnerability Database 2.0 and 1.0 Common Vulnerabilities and Exposure data via application programming interface or downloadable JSON files. NVD++ offers Common Platform Enumeration data, which is currently missing from the National Institute of Standards and Technology National Vulnerability Database, to help defenders identify vulnerable assets for newly published Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures in the NVD.
VulnCheck also offers the VulnCheck Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, a free offering available to security teams and threat detection engineers who join the VulnCheck Community. The VulnCheck KEV catalog, launched in February, provides advanced intelligence on vulnerabilities that have been exploited in the wild to help better manage threats, prioritize risk and outpace adversaries.
Key features of VulnCheck’s KEV catalog include comprehensive tracking, providing security teams with the largest real-time collection of known exploited vulnerabilities. The offering encompasses all vulnerabilities listed in the CISA KEV catalog, along with an additional 80% more vulnerabilities reported as being exploited in the wild.
Sorenson Capital Partners Management LLC was the lead investor in the seed round, with In-Q-Tel Inc., Lux Capital Management LLC and Aviso Ventures also participating. The funds will be used to accelerate growth and bolster product development among VulCheck’s offerings.
“Most enterprise security teams lack the real-time visibility into the vulnerabilities that matter, meaning they don’t have a way to quickly analyze a potential exploit path,” said Ken Elefant, a partner at Sorenson Capital. “VulnCheck is redefining how security teams prioritize which vulnerabilities to address first by enriching data with a real-time assessment of exploit weaponization.
