Alteryx Inspired is scheduled to take place on May 15 2024 AI

What to expect during the “Alteryx Inspire” event: Join theCUBE May 15

The role of data and innovation in shaping the future of generative artificial intelligence is critical.

All year on theCUBE, a major focus of coverage has been around workflows, data and intellectual property, especially given the recent wave of gen AI, according to Dave Vellante, chief analyst of theCUBE Research.

“This AI thing is real. It’s AI everywhere … powering all the trends, all the markets … all the way through the stack,” said Vellante, during the recent “Supercloud 6: AI Innovators” event.

The trends at play that are driving innovation in enterprise-grade AI represent a perfect wave for a company such as Alteryx Inc., according to theCUBE Research executive analyst John Furrier. It poses some interesting questions to study in advance of the Alteryx Inspire event on May 15.

“Now, there’s a democratization wave happening. What trends can we expect to see in the analytics space this year that [Alteryx] are vectoring into and that [the company’s] customers are working through and accelerating that gen AI story around?” Furrier asked.

Furrier, along with theCUBE industry analysts Rebecca Knight and Rob Strechay, will cover the impact of upcoming Alteryx product launches and dive into use cases on the evolution of AI in data platforms. Join theCUBE on May 15 for our coverage of the Alteryx Inspire event live on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. (* Disclosure below.)

A time of transition for Alteryx

There have been a number of big changes that have played out for Alteryx since last August, when its shares were hammered on soft guidance. At the time, the company said it would miss full-year forecasts, and its stock fell more than 22%.

Later in the year, the company agreed to be taken private by Clearlake Capital Group and Insight Partners in a deal worth $4.4 billion. The transaction was intended to provide increased working capital and industry expertise and flexibility as a private company, according to Mark Anderson, chief executive officer of Alteryx, at the time of the transaction.

“Together, we will make investments that matter most to our customers and accelerate our mission of harnessing the power of analytics to enable customers all over the world to transform data into a breakthrough,” Anderson said.

In January, Alteryx appointed Kevin Rubin as the company’s interim chief executive officer, as Anderson stepped down as CEO and from the company’s board of directors to pursue other opportunities. The acquisition of Alteryx by Clearlake Capital Group and Insight Partners was completed in March.

Alteryx seeking to innovate with AI

Over the past number of months, Alteryx has been focused on enhancing its artificial intelligence capabilities. In May 2023, it introduced a new artificial intelligence, machine learning and generative AI engine for the Alteryx Analytics Cloud Platform, intended to accelerate customer efficiency and productivity.

It was interesting to see generative AI infusions being applied to data operations, according to Holger Mueller of Constellation Research Inc. Data operations is an area that hasn’t seen much innovation lately, he noted.

“As such, it’s nice to see Alteryx coming up with a genuinely new use case that leverages the capabilities of generative AI to help business users better understand data-driven insights. It’s a promising new feature that many will feel is worth exploring,” said Mueller at the time of the announcement.

In October 2023, the company launched a no-code AI Studio to simplify the development of generative AI applications. The AI studio uses generative AI to help nonskilled workers create of new generative AI-powered applications.

Alteryx is being quite aggressive when it comes to gen AI, according to Doug Henschen of Constellation Research. But it has to, given how fast generative AI technology is moving the bar on data preparation and low-code application development, he noted.

“Alteryx is also facing stiff competition from data analytics firms, such as Tableau and Qlik, which are both upping their games on data prep and data integration,” Henschen said.

Company sees itself in good position amid trends

One can’t go more than a couple of minutes before hearing about generative AI in today’s technology world. For Alteryx, this is a time when everyone is asking how to combine the power of generative AI with predictive AI and prescriptive AI, according to Paula Hansen, president and chief revenue officer at Alteryx.

“We not only want to learn what’s happening today, but we want to combine that knowledge to say, ‘What could happen tomorrow, and what decisions and actions should we take prescriptively as a result of all this knowledge?’” she said in a preview for Alteryx Inspire. “We are uniquely positioned to help companies with the time that we’re facing and to help people put the power of generative AI to work.”

AI is dependent on the state of one’s data. That’s where Alteryx sits in a good position, according to Hansen.

“Your data needs to be prepped, it needs to be clean, it needs to be available for rich analytics, and then AI can do its job,” she said. “We are really excited about how all of these trends are kind of converging together in this time of data and AI.”

How is Alteryx seeking to be an industry leader when it comes to the evolution of AI in data platforms? And given security and governance trends, where does AI fit in and how can Alteryx tap its ecosystem to innovate in that area?

Those questions and more will be explored during the Alteryx Inspire event on May 15. TheCUBE will provide full coverage of the event to capture all the breaking news and provide analyst-driven commentary. You can follow theCUBE’s wall-to-wall coverage for firsthand insights.
