Prompt Security secures $18M to enhance enterprise protection against generative AI risks
Security startup Prompt Security Inc. announced today that it has raised $18 million in new funding to further its mission to protect enterprises against generative artificial intelligence threats while offering visibility into and governance over gen AI tools.
Founded in 2023 and launched in January, Prompt Security specializes in safeguarding enterprises against risks associated with generative AI. The company’s platform offers comprehensive security measures that ensure that organizations can adopt generative AI technologies without compromising data privacy or security.
The company’s platform seeks to address the issue wherein a growing number of enterprises deploying AI have suffered an AI security breach. According to Prompt Security research, the average enterprise uses 67 generative AI tools, with almost 90% of them lacking proper licensing or corporate approval.
Prompt Security’s solutions cover various AI touchpoints within an organization, including browsers, copilots, coding assistants and custom applications. By inspecting prompts and model responses, the platform prevents data leaks, blocks harmful content and defends against generative AI-specific threats such as prompt injections and shadow AI.
The company says the platform also gives enterprises full visibility and governance over AI tools in use, enabling effective policy enforcement and risk management. The approach ensures that AI integrations align with corporate standards and regulatory requirements and, in doing so, mitigates potential vulnerabilities.
More recently, in September, Prompt Security introduced the first security and governance solution for Microsoft 365 Copilot, demonstrating a commitment to addressing emerging AI challenges. The initiative is part of the company’s proactive stance in securing widely adopted AI applications.
Jump Capital led the Series A round, with Hetz Ventures Ltd., Ridge Ventures, Okta Inc. and F5 Inc. also participating in the round.
“As enterprises accelerate their adoption of generative AI, so do the associated risks,” Itamar Golan, co-founder and chief executive of Prompt Security, said in a statement. “This funding supercharges our mission to enable the safe use and deployment of generative AI in enterprises by mitigating such risks.”
Prompt Security’s founders, Golan and Lior Drihem (pictured), founded the company after years of experience in the cybersecurity industry, with both having previously worked at Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. Golan also previously worked at Orca Security Ltd. and was part of the core team of OWASP’s Top 10 for LLM Applications.
