Dmitry Panenkov, founder of emma technologies GmbH, discussed unintentional multicloud environments during theCUBE’s Cloud AWS reInvent coverage 2024 AI

Unintentional multicloud environments a key focus for Emma Technologies

Amid conversation around the future of cloud, it’s become clear that a centralized platform approach to governance and resilience is essential to effectively managing, optimizing and gaining value from multicloud environments. That’s especially true when disparate and distributed environments may have occurred by accident via acquisitions, shadow IT or differences in one’s business unit, in what can be referred to as unintentional multicloud environments.

Organizations may sometimes think that multicloud adoption fell from the sky. Sometimes, companies may not even realize they’re in a multicloud, according to Dmitry Panenkov (pictured), founder of Emma Technologies S.a.r.l.

“They just simply tell us, ‘OK, we use AWS, but in the regions where we do not have AWS, there is another provider, and yet we actually also have an on-prem,’” Panenkov said. “And you’re like, ‘OK, guys. You’re in a multicloud.’”

Panenkov spoke with theCUBE Research’s Rob Strechay for theCUBE’s “Cloud AWS re:Invent coverage,” during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed the challenges and strategies for managing unintentional multicloud environments and how Emma Technologies’ centralized platform aims to enhance governance, resilience and cost optimization. Platform aims to fix unintentional multicloud environments

The platform is intended to address unintentional multicloud environments, according to Panenkov. That happens sometimes due to ad hoc decisions.

“We enable, with our centralized platform, to provide them with the visibility across the variety of the clouds, enforce different policies and offer the financial tools to control their costs,” he said. “Basically, this approach turns the accident reality into a strategic advantage.”

These days, organizations are seeking greater ROI, flexibility and improved application resilience. For Emma Technologies, the networking backbone physically interconnects different cloud service providers, Panenkov pointed out.

“Because of this networking backbone, Emma Technologies allows customers to seamlessly distribute their workloads across multiple cloud service providers to reduce the dependencies on a single cloud to minimize the downtime risks,” he said. “Basically, our platform automates the deployment strategies and ensures the resilience while optimizing applications’ performance across the environments.”
