Application programming interface security company Salt Security Inc. today announced the launch of “Ask Pepper AI,” a new generative artificial intelligence-powered natural language interface for its API Protection Platform.
The new service leverages Amazon Bedrock to transform API security operations by allowing security professionals and developers to ask plain-English questions and receive immediate, actionable insights about their API landscape, posture gaps and risk.
The AI offering is seeking to assist with the issue whereby in today’s complex cloud environments, security teams are often overwhelmed by data and lack clear visibility. A recent Salt Security survey found that only 19% of organizations are “very confident” in the accuracy of their API inventory and that only 15% of organizations admit they do not know which APIs expose personally identifiable information.
Ask Pepper AI has been designed to cut through the complexity by democratizing access to critical security data. Instead of navigating complex dashboards, users can ask questions such as “What APIs have the highest Risk Score?” and “Which of my APIs expose PII?” along with other relevant questions.
“API security is complex, but understanding your risk shouldn’t be,” said co-founder and Chief Operating Officer Michael Nicosia. “Ask Pepper AI makes it simple. By using Amazon Bedrock, we’re putting powerful, intuitive security insights into the hands of everyone from security operation center analysts to chief information security officers. When most organizations aren’t even sure what their API inventory looks like, the ability to just ask and get an immediate answer is a game-changer.”
The choice to build on Amazon Bedrock allows the service to provide customers with access to high-performing foundation models that allow Ask Pepper AI to understand user intent and provide precise answers about an organization’s unique API environment. The result accelerates incident response and risk prioritization.
Ask Pepper AI integrates with Salt Security’s three core use cases — API Discovery, Posture Governance and Threat Protection — to make it easier than ever to manage the full lifecycle of APIs.
The new AI service is making its debut at AWS re:Invent 2025 this week in Las Vegas.
