Copperhelm dives deep into automation to build enterprise cloud defenses

Copperhelm Inc., a startup building agentic artificial intelligence for cloud cybersecurity, today announced its launch with $7 million in seed funding led by TLV Partners.

ToDay Ventures, ICON and SaaS Ventures Israel also participated in funding the company’s launch. Notable angel investors joining alongside included Kfir Tishbi, Or Hiltch, Guy Zipori and Ephraim Yarmak.

Cybersecurity is already being transformed by AI, where machine learning and generative AI have been harnessed to capture anomalies, fix vulnerabilities and close exploits. However, Copperhelm argues that cloud environments pose a different type of attack surface that is much more complex than the normal network, where fragmented services and hundreds of users persist across numerous services and virtual machines.

In addition, the prevalence of autonomous agents hasn’t changed the reliance on manual work amidst cloud security teams throughout the cloud industry. Copperhelm wants to change this by bringing a greater level of cybersecurity autonomy, transparency and capability to the cloud at enterprise scale.

“Engineering teams got AI years ago; security was left behind doing manual work,” said co-founder and Chief Executive Shimon Tolts (pictured, right). “Copperhelm finally brings true AI to cloud security. It’s like instantly adding 20 senior engineers to your team.”

Founded by a team including Tolts, Eyar Zilberman (center) and Roman Labunsky (left), the company brings expertise from backgrounds such as Unity Software Inc., McAfee Corp. and RSA Security LLC. Together, they have a combined track record of building and understanding cloud infrastructure and security products.

Under the hood, Copperhelm uses what it calls a Context Lake, a real-time decision engine used to deploy AI agents that can act as an extension of the security team in the cloud. They work by continuously analyzing infrastructure, investigating risks and committing fixes using the same tools professionals use.

The company said that using this agentic approach, one of its customers, an unnamed Fortune 500 enterprise, transformed 6 million raw findings into a few hundred curated and validated risk reports that their team could actually act on.

The platform includes a specialized set of agents that augment the roles of security experts and professionals through network analysis, system behavior, adversary simulation, and automated remediation. The agents are attached directly to live activity and inspect active processes and container images, map cloud networks and deploy active defenses such as rules and policies to mitigate threats without downtime.
