Pano Logic sells organizations specialized hardware and software that offer a full desktop experience on stripped-down end points, safer and more affordable than an actual PC. The company carved itself a niche in the VDI market, and today it took another step forward with the debut of Pano System for Cloud and the accompanying Pano Zero Device.
Pano System for Cloud is essentially a different implementation of the same concept that Google’s Chrome OS is based on: a solution that’s purpose-built to deliver web applications and nothing else. The only difference is that the target audience is the SMB market rather than end users, and the actual client is far more basic than a full-featured notebook with the mindset of offering just the essentials.
Instead of a delivering cloud services to a regular end point, Pano System for Cloud ‘streams’ applications like Gmail directly to a Pano Zero Device. The end point doesn’t run an operating system locally and has no processor, storage and memory, only a limited number of USB ports that can be connected to a monitor. It costs $149 and for the low price tag offers the bare minimum that’s required to support a worker’s online activities – something that a lot of SMBs and even larger customers will undoubtedly find appealing.
“Pano Logic is disrupting the economics of enterprise computing and providing a true cloud computing platform for the organizations embracing cloud-based productivity applications,” John Kish, CEO of Pano Logic, said. “For those organizations that don’t require a full Windows environment, the transition is seamless with immediate benefits. The end user sees the Chrome browser interface.”
The VDI space has seen a lot of action lately. Just yesterday Piston Cloud revealed the integration of its platform with GridCentric’s technology to create the first enterprise-ready desktop virtualization solution that’s based on OpenStack.
