Trapit Tops This Week’s Business Tablet App Roundup
Trapit is an AI coupled with a newspaper app that aggregates content that the user is interested in from around the web and not just from social networks. This is where the artificial intelligence kicks in: the service automatically customizes this personal stream based on engagement, and this week Trapit rolled out an iPad version. Previously the app was only available on the web.
iPad
Trapit is based on the same engine that Siri was built upon, and the iPad client has some unique capabilities that offer an enhanced experience to the service’s mobile users. Links can be opened directly from a built-in browser with full screen support, and there are social elements that allow you to share content on Facebook and Twitter. There’s also a save option that lets you save articles for future reading.
Computer List is a very simplistic utility app that doesn’t invest too heavily on the looks, but does solve one particular problem quite effectively. It’s essentially a note-taking app modified to store details about the machines that an admin is responsible for: purchase date, serial number, specs and even a small space for notes are all included.
Textfree is an extremely popular text messaging app that does exactly what the title says. It lets the user to send free text messages in the U.S. and over 15 other countries. It’s possible to send pictures as well if you’re subscribed to one of the bigger carriers, and with a user base of 14 million it’s safe to say that it does the job.
Android
The new Evernote comes with several new perks for its tablet audience. The interface has been overhauled to make better use of all the screen real estate that’s available to it, and swipe control is now smoother than before. On top of that there’s a compact note list that doesn’t require the user to tab out in order to write a thought down on the fly, plus slideshows have been improved.
Pocket is an Android app that’s dedicated to one capability that Trapit also considered: being able to save an article or a video for future viewing. Pocket expands on this functionality though with sync across other phones as well as PCs, in addition to a log in feature that makes things even more cloud compatible.
