Apple To Hold Separate Launch Dates For iPhone 5 and iPad Mini

Chinese site Apple.pro posted photos from a Photobucket account which are believed to be of the upcoming iPhone 5.

The said photos contain images which features the front panel complete with the LCD frame, front camera, flex cables and home button.  Based on the photos, the iPhone 5 will be available in black and white, and will have a unibody design.

Another site, Macotakara, claims that the square component covered by EMI shielding could possibly be an NFC chip since the dimensions of the square-shaped component is up to par with the dimensions of currently available NFC packages like NXP’s 5 millimeter-by-5 millimeter solution.  The site also claims that there’s a huge chance that the next iPod Touch will also be equipped with an NFC chip so contactless shopping will not be confined to iPhone owners.

Save the dates

It was earlier reported that Apple will be holding an event on September 12 where they will be unveiling the new iPhone, the iPad mini and/or the iPod Touch.  But new news from AllThingsD states that Apple will be holding two events: one in September and another in October.  The September 12 event is said to be solely for the the new iPhone, while the October event will be for the iPad mini.

According to Daring Fireball’s John Gruber, the reason for the separate events is that Apple doesn’t want any of their products to take the backseat.  They want both devices to take front and center and the media to drool at both devices separately.

“I don’t think Apple would want reviews of both a new iPhone and new-size iPad appearing at the same time,” Gruber wrote. “Why share the spotlight? Why have another Apple product battling with the iPhone for the top spots in news coverage? … The more I think about it, the less sense it makes for the iPhone to even share the stage at the announcement with any other product. The iPhone is too big, too cool, and garners too much attention — and it’s in Apple’s interest to keep that attention undiluted.”
