Big Data Milestone from Hadapt, Tableau Team-Up

Hadapt, a two year startup that integrates Hadoop into traditional BI environments, just unveiled the second release of its Adaptive Analytical Platform. Version 2.0 is a huge improvement over the first, thanks to a number of new features.

One major addition is the Hadapt Development Kit, which enables developers to supplement the platform’s built-in analytical capabilities with their own custom code. These functions can be written in SQL, sparing them from having to work with the more complicated MapReduce framework.

“There is significant demand in the market to leverage Hadoop for Big Data analytics,” said Merv Adrian, Research VP at Gartner. “Two key enablers must be addressed for the business analyst community: 1) interactive query capabilities coupled with continuous data ingestion, and 2) advanced analytics packaged as SQL functions that can be natively integrated with existing BI tools.”

The Adaptive Analytical Platform delivers the interactive query capabilities in the form of integration Tableau. The latter firm providers’ visualization features aimed at both data scientists and decision makers, functionality that becomes especially advantageous in large-scale environments that store up to petabytes of data.  Hadapt CTO Philip Wickline says that most of his company’s customers already leverage Tableau solutions in conjunction with its analytics platform, so the partnership makes even more sense from a marketing stand point.

This is equally big for Tableau, which shares the mutual goal of making sense out of big data for the traditional enterprise BI user.  The firm is seeing a lot of growth that can be credited in great part to the quality and cost-efficiency of its products, according to a recent report by Gartner, and reinforcing its Hadoop strategy is key to maintain this momentum.
