Three different vendors had announced major product updates this week. Tokutek open-sourced the latest version of its MySQL platform and unveiled a new enterprise service, Pentaho acquired a Portuguese firm by the name of Webdetails, and Dell introduced a new release of its database management platform.
Tokutek released the source-code for TokuDB 7, the latest version of its storage acceleration platform. The Lexington, Massachusetts-based database performance specialist also announced TokuDB Enterprise Edition, a commercial offering that includes technical support, initial customer onboarding services, and “advanced tools for backup and recovery”.
Pentaho shelled out an undisclosed sum for Webdetails, a Portugal-based design consultancy that has played a very active role in its ecosystem over the past few years. The firm’s contributions include the open-source ‘CTools’ suite, a set of tools for creating dashboards and reports.
Webdetails founder Pedro Alves is taking on the role of “chief advocate and interface to Pentaho’s active open source developer community”. His team will split its time between developing data visualizations for the company’s software solutions, and sharing its expertise with customers.
Dell is the third company that had an important Big Data update this week. On Tuesday the vendor pulled the curtains off the second release of its Toad Business Intelligence Suite, a centralized platform for managing traditional and non-traditional data sources.
V2.0 includes a number of new features, including integration with Microsoft Analysis Services and Amazon’s DynamoDB and Redshift database services. The software also features new collaboration capabilities that enable users to share insights online and make data and queries easily accessible for colleagues.
