Moto X May See Huge Price Drop to Make Way for Nexus 5

Notorious Twitter leaker, @evleaks, has just revealed that consumers may be seeing a huge price drop as well wood back covers coming for Google and Motorola’s Moto X phone towards the end of 2013.

Currently, the Moto X sells for $199.99 for the 16GB version on a two-year contract with AT&T and Verizon. The latter company also offers the device for $24.99 a month on Verizon Edge.  If what @evleaks says is true, we may be seeing the Moto X price drop in time for the holiday season – which makes sense since mobile devices fly off shelves during that time. With the huge price drop, it will be very appealing for both first time smartphone buyers and anyone whose bored with their current smartphones.

The Moto X features a 4.7” AMOLED display, 1280 x 720 resolution, 316 pixels per inch, 1.7GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro, 2,200 mAh battery with 13 hours talk-time and 24 hours standby time. It runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, and comes with a 10MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, gesture based camera UI, but the most standout feature is that consumers will be able to customize how the device looks.

If the Moto X is set to have its price slashed, what would that mean for other carriers who are about to launch the device on their networks?  Sprint is already accepting pre-registration for customers wanting the Moto X, while T-Mobile has opted to sell the Moto X on Google Play. Would that mean less revenue for these late comers?

It’s quite baffling as to why the device is seeing a huge price drop just weeks after it was launched.  Could it be that the Moto X is not selling well, or is this merely an indication that Google will be launching the Nexus 5 in November?

Sources are pointing to the latter reason for the Moto X price drop.  It seems Google is readying to unveil the Nexus 5 by November.  Rumors suggest features such as a 5” 1080p HD display, octa-core processor running at up to 2.3GHz, a 13MP rear camera, 3GB of RAM, and will be the launch device for the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie.

The problem some are seeing is that with the Moto X prices being slashed, does that mean we might also see the Nexus 5 priced at $300 on a two-year contract?  Hopefully not, but it’s not entirely impossible for Google to do this.
