Google releases Nexus 5 and Android KitKat for Halloween
The rumors were true, Google did have a treat for Fandroids on Halloween. Though it was expected that Google would unveil a new smartphone, platform and smartwatch, only two of the three were officially announced.
Android 4.4 KitKat
Google has officially launched Android 4.4 KitKat, its latest mobile platform that promises to deliver a more immersive experience by making things more engaging. It features a new Hangouts app where you can find all your conversations such as SMS, MMS, chats, and even video calls. Plus, you can now use Emojis on any messaging platform
You no longer have to touch the screen to make the device perform tasks, just say, “OK Google” to launch voice search, send a text, get directions or even play a song.
Even videos and music offer a much more immersive experience. When you stream a movie or song using Chromecast, your smartphone will feature wallpaper of the music you are listening to or the video you are watching. From the lock screen, you’ll see the wallpaper as well as options for controlling, such as pausing, and going back or forward.
Android KitKat, despite the name being somewhat playful, means serious business. You can now print any file to any printer connected to Google Cloud Print. There’s also a redesigned QuickOffice for all your documentation needs, the ability to save and access any file on any device, and a many more new features.
Android KitKat will soon be available for the Nexus 4, 7, 10, the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One Google Play edition devices in the coming weeks.
