Block storage vendor Zadara is taking aim at the hybrid cloud with a new pay-as-you-go solution for NetApp customers. The offering enables users to plug their fabric-attached storage (FAS) infrastructure into AWS using a private network and dedicated drives and vServers.
Zadara is best known for its Virtual Private Storage Array, an OpenStack-based platform that provides SAN and NAS functionality on major public clouds. The so-called “storage array as a service” addresses the technical barriers to deploying databases and high-performance applications at a remote location.
With this week’s product launch, NetApp customers can leverage VPSA to provision EC2 instances with elastic NetApp Private Storage volumes and configure their environments using a customized “self-service management portal.” Zadara elastic NetApp Private Storage for AWS starts at $0.30 per GB per month. It will be displayed at Amazon’s upcoming re:Invent gathering in Las Vegas.
“Enterprise IT managers require performance, reliability, and security in their data management solutions while seeking new flexibility and cost savings. Zadara’s solution extends NetApp’s flagship operating system and data management solution to AWS customers,” commented Lee Gates, the director Cloud Solutions at NetApp. “Zadara’s solution provides our user community with a highly innovative approach with elastic, by-the hour enterprise storage solution.”
Zadara’s push into the NetApp ecosystem comes after the storage vendor teamed up with Equinix to provide fast connections to AWS. Under the partnership, NetApp users can install dedicated storage in Equinix colocation facilities to take advantage of cloud compute without relinquishing control over their data.
Following in the footsteps of their customers. vendors are increasingly recognizing the opportunities in the hybrid cloud. Unified monitoring provider Zenoss recently updated its Service Impact dependency tracking tool to better support large-scale enterprise deployments.
