Salesforce crushes analysts’ forecasts with $1B Q3 revenues

Cloud computing company Salesforce posted its third quarter earnings report today, proudly announcing that it had beaten analysts’ expectations.

Salesforce posted total revenues of $1.08 billion, a 36 percent year-over-year increase.  The company admitted that the huge increase in its revenue was due to its acquisition of ExactTarget, which closed down back in July.  Wall Street was expecting revenues of just $1.06 billion for the quarter.

Diluted non-GAAP earnings per share were $0.09, which excludes the effects of $142 million in stock-based compensation expense, $49 million in amortization of purchased intangibles, and $13 million in net non-cash interest expenses related to the company’s convertible senior notes, and is based on a non-GAAP tax rate of approximately 27 percent.

Cash generated from operations for the fiscal third quarter was $138 million, an increase of 30 percent year-over-year, while total cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities ended the quarter at $1.09 billion.

The company said that it’s now expecting fourth quarter revenues of between $1.124 billion and $1.129 billion, an increase of 35 percent year-over-year.  The company is also expecting revenues in the range of $4.050 billion to $4.055 billion, an increase of 33 percent year-over-year, for its full fiscal year 2014.

“Salesforce.com is the first enterprise cloud computing company to deliver a $1 billion quarter, with outstanding third quarter revenue growth at 36%,” said Marc Benioff, Chairman and CEO of Saleforce.com.

“Given the strong customer response to our next generation social and mobile cloud technologies, I’m delighted to announce that we expect to deliver our first $5 billion year during our fiscal year 2015.”

In other news on Monday, Salesforce also announced its next-generation CRM platform called Salesforce1 aimed at helping software vendors, developers, and customers to become more mobile and social.  Salesforce1 is a “mobile-first” environment that can put Salesforce ahead of its competition if it can successfully connect billions of mobile devices and sensors to the enterprise.

Highlights of Salesfoce1 include ten times more APIs and services, existing Salesforce apps that can run within Salesforce1, a new Salesforce1 Admin App for administrators, iOS and Android mobile apps that aggregate all of the company’s tools, including, and custom-made applications built by enterprises.
