An Open (Love) Letter to Boxee

Boxee Box why have you stood me up once again? Can’t you see the flame of my affection beginning to wane? You teased me way back at CES seven months ago. Your quirky little cube was all the rage on the show floor. We filmed the glee of CEO, Avner Ronen picking up the ‘Last Gadget Standing Award’ and held your remote in our hands. I’ve waited for you to arrive in our home… and waited.

News began to break that everyone else on the block was showing off their SlingBox and Roku devices. Heck even TV manufactures like

Panasonic and Samsung are touting their new net-streaming units at Best Buy and yet I have no Boxee Box. Hulu is even getting some traction – Hulu, driven by the supposedly slow to turn major conglomerates are beating you to market.

I’m not letting go of my dream of holding your little up-turned corner’d box in my hands. Oh dear Boxee why have you let the market get in front of you? Your squishy little underside, that divine compact QWERTY remote needs a home – my home. For two years now we’ve danced this dance, well only one of us- you’ve made me feel so foolish asking the DJ to keep playing ‘Loving Arms’ while standing alone under the mirrored ball. I fear that 762 days of waiting for you is just too much.

It is with conflicted emotions that I watch this video of the first factory delivered unit to come off the line from D-Link. Once again, I start to get all tingly inside until I hear the words – ‘late October, maybe November.’ By that time the world may just be calling you too late for the big dance. It’s getting crowded out there and I’m tired of you being so stand-offish. That flirty little Slingbox is starting to make googly eyes at me. I will try to control my urges but you are making this very difficult.
