theCUBE Live At Oracle Open World 2014
“As NoSQL matures, it will be very much part and parcel of what Oracle views as their big data strategy,” said Oracle Corp.‘s Dave Segleau, director of product management for NoSQL Database, Berkeley DB and Database Mobile Server. Segleau explained that while it’s “very early” for NoSQL databases, Oracle recognizes their potential in the big data space.
The database system, he said, has advanced past experimentation and into implementation. At present, Segleau said, use cases are mainly around product recommendation websites, which combine an analytics engine with Oracle NoSQL capability to operationalize market segmentation. The combination allows sites to identify and provide value to customers in part because the NoSQL database can query data from any relational technology, Segleau explained, “from a centralized query standpoint.”
Oracle offers both a open source and enterprise edition of their Oracle NoSQL database — a move that Segleau suggests could be representative of a “change in perspective” he’s noticed at Oracle when it comes to open source.
