Splunk SVP of Security Markets Haiyan Song In theCUBE At The Hadoop Summit 2014
Although security was not Splunk Inc.’s original mission, it has become a leading solution for the multinational corporation, said Haiyan Song, SVP of Security Markets at Splunk. The goal at Splunk is for people to build security applications on the Splunk platform, which provides “a specific framework and capabilities” upon which partners can build their own solution.
Splunk credits its customers for the early entry into security. The capabilities of the platform, Song recounted, took customers down the security path. Song also credited Splunk founders, who saw the potential to elevate Splunk’s value by making security acquisitions.
Song emphasized that the threat Splunk security is up against is very real. Splunk, its partners and customers will need both speed and innovation to quell attacks. The choice to go with analytics-driven security, Song said, makes sense because it offers companies the chance to be “proactive and predictive” in their security efforts, offering data visualization and automation capabilities. The objective when designing this approach, Song explained was to “leverage the best of humanity and the best of technology.”
