Tableau taps consultancy powerhouse to broaden industry reach

global art abstract earth worldwide map green and blueTableau Software Inc. is further expanding its market presence through a new alliance with Infosys Ltd., one of the largest technology outsourcing providers in the world, to bring the power of data visualization to more business users. The agreement marks the latest in a string of major analytics partnerships revealed over the last two weeks.

It all started with IBM Corp. tapping Twitter Inc. to supply real-time social activity data for its Watson Analytics service in a landmark deal aimed at assembling a more complete picture of business and consumer trends. Shortly thereafter, Hadoop distributor MapR Technologies Inc. inked an agreement with database hotshot MongoDB Inc. to integrate their complementary technologies and allow customers to move data back and forth as they require without having to rewrite existing workloads.

The partnership between Infosys and Tableau is also unique, focusing on combining their respective strengths to achieve mutual growth objectives. The agreement will see the Indian professional services powerhouse train a large contingency of consultants on using Tableau Enterprise, which is geared towards business users but has quite a few advanced features requiring more than a basic of amount of technological savviness. Those workers will in turn pass their knowledge to customers around the world, thus making the visualization provider’s software more accessible.

The partnership can prove highly beneficial for both firms. Tableau is gaining access to the sales reach of one of the world’s leading consultancies, while Infosys is leveling the playing field against Deloitte Ltd. and the dozens of other competitors that already maintain relations with the data visualization giant. The alliance also ties in nicely with the plans of new CEO Dr Vishal Sikka, who until not long served as the CTO of business intelligent stalwart SAP SE, to double down on software in a push to grow long-term margins.

And from a higher point of view, the team-up between the two industry marks the latest milestone in the evolution of the broader data analytics movement, which is gains momentum with every new strategic team-up.
