As more apps and end users move towards the cloud, a primary customer requirement around networking is agility. “The demands around agility just keep increasing,” said Dominic Wilde, VP of Marketing and Global Product Line Management, HP Networking in his live interview with theCUBE co-hosts at Hewlett-Packard Co.’s annual Discover event in Barcelona this week.
“What we’re emphasizing is the power of simplicity,” Wilde explained, going on to note how implementing Software Defined Networking (SDN) principles can increase infrastructure agility, reliability. Network virtualization is the aspect of SDN that people are applying most readily, Wilde explained, as it allows them to do more with the existing networks, but also supports agility demands.
To help its customers make the shift to SDN, HP provides transformation services that allow the company to tailor their advice on technology, business, and fund requirements based on a client’s existing environment, in the context of their network, Wilde said.
According to Wilde, there are very specific applications that people want to just fence off, like HANA or Hadoop, suggesting customers will “want to tune the network to make those apps very efficient.” Yet in general, people also want to drive the SDN into their overall structure to get more efficiency and reliability, he explained. As one size does not fit all, HP delivers three different network virtualization solutions for different use cases that require different features: Virtual Cloud Network (VCN), integrated in Helion Cloud offering that scales up to 4000 VLANs, the HP VMware Network solution that solves the networking visibility and troubleshooting of VM stack users, and the Distributed Cloud Network, which, Wilde explained, is “geared more towards the service providers and really large organizations that act like service providers.”
