Product announcements at HP Discover Barcelona are the fruits of Hewlett-Packard Inc.’s investments in research and development in both storage and converged systems. David Scott, SVP & GM, HP Storage, said in his live interview with theCUBE co-hosts John Furrier and Dave Vellante, that for the mainstream use cases, “HP with 3PAR is better positioned than any other company in the industry. We solved the three main all-flash array problems.” Scott was referring to major issues that have frustrated startups for years, including cost point, enterprise scale, and enterprise resilience. Solving these issues has led to sales taking off for HP.
Commenting on the Software Defined Data Center, Scott said there were two fundamental strategies in the industry. The first implies that all you need for ADDC is “to introduce a control plane. We don’t believe that hiding complexity is the same as offering simplicity.” said Scott. The issue is not to simply have a software management layer, but also eliminate the underlying complexity. “Delivering simplicity at the foundation layer is what enables the new style of IT,” he explained.
