Apple Inc. is reported to have acquired audio software maker Camel Audio Inc. for an unknown sum.
There’s no official announcement about the acquisition, but it has been confirmed by way of company registration in the United Kingdom. According to Macrumors Camel Audio has appointed Apple Europe lawyer Heather Joy Morrison as its director and changed its registered address to 100 New Bridge Street, London, which is Apple’s official U.K. address.
Camel Audio ceased trading January 8th, presumably at the time it was acquired by Apple, and posted the following statement to its users:
“We would like to thank you for the support we’ve received over the years in our efforts to create instruments and effects plug-ins and sound libraries.
“Camel Audio’s plug-ins, Alchemy Mobile IAPs and sound libraries are no longer available for purchase. We will continue to provide downloads of your previous purchases and email support until July 7, 2015. We recommend you download all of your purchases and back them up so that you can continue to use them. Thank you again for your support.”
Camel Audio’s primary product was a audio mixing package called Alchemy that retailed for $249. According to reports Alchemy included more than 1000 sounds, 5.5GB worth of samples, a powerful additive resynthesis engine, spectral resynthesis, a virtual analog synthesizer, and more. The company also sold a range of plugins, digital synthesizers, effects, and sound libraries that worked with its software.
Exactly what Apple gets out of the acquisition isn’t clear, but it’s possible that some of the features from Camel Audio may be integrated into future versions of Garage Band or its professional sound mixing software Logic Pro X.
