LG G4 launching April 28? New rumor roundup
Many had hoped to see LG Electronics, Inc.’s flagship smartphone at this year’s Mobile World Congress, but an executive of the company stated that the device would make an appearance no sooner than a year after its predecessor, the LG G3, which debuted in May 2014.
It looks like even the executive got it wrong, as LG sent out invites for an event on April 28 and 29, 2015, in New York, London, Paris, Seoul, Singapore and Istanbul. The invitation uses a simple tagline” “See the Great. Feel the Great,” and you can see that the “G” on the word great has been emphasized, which could be hinting at the launch of its next flagship smartphone, the LG G4.
The invitation also featured a leather background with stitching that could be hinting at what the LG G4 would look like. But would faux leather and stitching interest consumers, or will LG’s flagship smartphone offer something more compelling to rival its competitors?
Last year’s LG G3 had people gushing over its primary camera, which features Laser Auto Focus, allowing users to take clear, crisp photos even of moving subjects. Will this feature still be available on the LG G4, or will there be something even better?
LG G4 rumor roundup
Design, display and dimension
According to reports, the LG G4 could actually be bigger than its predecessor, as its display could measure at 5.6 inches. For its overall size, the device is said to measure at 148.9mm height x 76.5mm width x 9.9mm depth based on protective casing already being marketed by some South Korean companies. It is said to feature a QHD 1440 x 2560 display and will feature a bezel of just 0.7mm, which means more room on the display for users to enjoy and a Gorilla Glass 4 to top it off. As for the design, it is expected to have a curved back with a brushed metal finish similar to the LG G3.
.
Camera
The device is said to feature a 16MP camera with laser auto focus, optical image stabilization and dual-LED, dual tone flash. The primary camera can simultaneously take a video and capture an image, has geo-tagging, face detection and HDR features. The front facing camera is expected to come at 8MP.
.
Processor, memory and OS
The LG G4 is said to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset, an Adreno 418 GPU, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage that can be upgraded to up to 128GB via a microSD. It will run the latest version of Android, Android Lollipop, right out of the box.
LG is expected to announce the LG UX 4.0 before the LG G4 is launched. The LG UX 4.0 is an Android skin, or LG’s iteration of the Android OS, to make it more LG than Google.
.
Connectivity and other things
For its connectivity, the LG G4 offers Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, hotspot, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS, GLONASS, NFC, infrared port, stereo FM radio with RDS and microUSB 2.0.
It is rumored that the LG G4 will sport a fingerprint scanner at the back of the device, just below the primary camera, which can be utilized to facilitate mobile payments. Because it is more of a phablet than a smartphone, it won’t be surprising if the leaked images are true and that the LG G4 will come with a stylus. This means more ways of interacting with the device, as well as more precise control.
