What you need to know about the BlackBerry+Android partnership
There have been rumors that BlackBerry Ltd. is going to launch an Android device and it seems that we may be seeing the device soon, as Google and BlackBerry announced an enterprise partnership.
The announcement on BlackBerry’s site did not reveal a new device yet, but it did provide information as to what we can expect from a BlackBerry+Android device.
First off, the device will feature a fusion of Android Lollipop and BlackBerry Enterprise Solution 12. Android Lollipop is described as having “key enterprise functionality” that addresses “previous enterprise security concerns” and BES12 will support Android Lollipop so it can be safely deployed in the enterprise.
Benefits of BlackBerry+Android
Those who currently have BlackBerry deployed in their organization maybe wondering about what this new partnership can offer them.
On BlackBerry’s page the company explains that the partnership delivers the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) as it reduces complexity while optimizing pooled resources and ensuring maximum uptime with the modern architecture of BES12.
It also offers client-side lockdown allowing for control of corporate assets used on mobile devices regardless or ownership model, unified administration console, world-class global support, comprehensive enterprise mobile management, and end-to-end security.
Better security
As for the end-to-end security, it features a dedicated work profile so work and personal data do not mix. This is accomplished via a hardware-based full disk encryption. It also implements sharing restrictions that ensure business data such as calendars, contacts, files and apps are separate and safe from malware, and personal information stays private.
With BlackBerry+Android, IT has full control of all work related policies, profiles and data. IT can control app distribution as well as wiping business information when necessary. The EMM framework also ensures that a consistent experience is delivered across all devices.
Work app availability
The BlackBerry+Android integration delivers a tight integration with Google Play for Work. This allows employees access to numerous work related apps that are secured for enterprise use and has seamless integration with existing IT systems. The integration also provides for quick creation of apps via the Android app framework.
