HP “gets real” about Big Data, unveils new model for revamped tech | #HPBigData2015

Industry giant Hewlett-Packard Co. has been making a number of moves lately in the Big Data world to help unleash the power of information for companies of all sizes. It has supported startups, and its technology has powered the digital transformation of leading businesses.

To help shed some light on HP’s plan for the future of data, John Furrier and Dave Vellante of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE’s Media production team, spent some time with Jeff Veis, VP of Marketing with the Big Data Business Group at HP, at the HP Big Data 2015 conference.

Veis started the conversation with a look at the industry names that make use of HP’s products. The conference allowed HP to showcase its core products for handling data in motion, and the big names taking advantage showed the power of the technology.

A plan for the future

There are three core tenets that HP is following, Veis explained. First is its core technology, because HP Labs is all about innovation. Secondly, they wanted to embrace the open-source developer community. Third, the tech had to run on a new model that made Big Data simple and easy to use.

As for its conference event, the goal was to be real with the community, showing them how to employ the technology and move forward with new innovation. Big Data is a powerful tool, Veis said, but you have to meet that power in the real world.

Making sense of the data

Veis pointed out how HP was working to demystify Big Data and using Big Data to explore new ways of doing business while also giving clients the power to use that data to ask the right questions about their customers and operations.

An important part of this was making sure the data was offered to people in the way that they needed it most. As the people within a company have different functions, they also have unique data needs. Getting the right info to the right people is the trick to empowering data.
