Leaks have emerged that pre-orders for the latest handsets will begin September 11, and will be available in Apple’s physical stores by September 18.

If you’re ready to upgrade your old iPhone, you might be wondering what you’re going to do with your old device when the new one arrives, and how much you can get for it.

There’s a growing number of programs from retailers anxious to buy your old iPhone and pay a good amount of cash for the used handset, as long as it’s in good working and physical condition. eBay

You can sell a variety of smartphones on eBay, Inc. An old unlocked, black 8GB iPhone 4 and 4s could sell for about $70 provided that it is in good condition, even if it doesn’t come with any accessories.

An iPhone 5 could sell for $169, an iPhone 5s for $248, and an iphone 5c for $148. the much newer iPhones, the 6 and 6 Plus, could sell for $442 or more, depending on the color, storage capacity, whether it is unlocked or tied to a carrier, comes with original accessories, and condition.

Glyde

You can buy and sell games and electronic devices on Glyde Corp., and now that the new iPhone is about to launch, the company is offering some great deals for older iPhones.

Some of its offerings include $135 for a 16GB Black iPhone 5 under AT&T, $171 for a 16GB Blue iPhone 5c under T-Mobile, $229 for a 16GB Gold iPhone 5s under Verizon, $409 for a 16GB Space Gray iPhone 6 under AT&T, and $553 for a 64GB Silver iPhone 6 Plus under Verizon.

iCracked

iCracked, Inc. acts as a middleman for selling old iPhones, iPads and even Samsung devices. You can exchange your old device for a prepaid debit card immediately by meeting up with a local iTech or the person purchasing your device, or have the money sent to you by check or PayPal after you have sent your device to the buyer.

A device that powers on, can make calls, has no cracked screen or frame with only has minor scratches and nicks on frame and screen, all buttons functioning and not jamming, is considered normal.

A normal iPhone 4s goes for $10, an iPhone 5 and 5c goes for as little as $5 while the 5s is priced as $50. The more recent iPhone 6 sells for about $230 and the 6 Plus goes for about $265. Most consumers will probably not go for what iCracked offers, as its offerings are pretty low.

You can trade your old iPhone for cash or store credit at GameStop Corp., but be aware that they offer a higher value if you choose to trade for store credit instead of cash.

You can get $296 in cash or $370 store credit for a 128GB iPhone 6 Plus from AT&T, $264 cash or $330 store credit for a 128GB iPhone 6 from AT&T, $128 cash or $160 store credit for a 64GB iPhone 5s from Verizon, $92 cash or $115 store credit for a 16GB iPhone 5 from Verizon, $80 cash or $100 store credit for a 32GB iPhone 5c from Verizon, and $20 cash or $25 store credit for a 16GB iPhone 4s from T-Mobile. Like iCracked, GameStop’s offerings aren’t as high as what other services offer.

Gazelle

Gazelle, Inc. offers money for devices even if they are banged up broken, but you can’t expect too much compensation when your device is in very bad shape. Also, devices not in contract with a carrier are valued at higher prices, along with devices in pristine condition and those with higher storage capacities.

At today’s current rate, an unlocked and good condition 8GB iPhone 4 sells for $10, $35 for a 8GB iPhone 4s, $100 for a 16GB iPhone 5, $80 for a 16GB iPhone 5c, $160 for a 16GB iPhone 5s, $355 for a 16GB iPhone 6, and $400 for a 16GB iPhone 6 Plus.

Another service that owners of very old or damaged iPhones would love is uSell.com, Inc. It offers $12.15 for a damaged, unlocked 8GB iPhone 4 and the price goes up to $27.70 if it is in flawless working and physical condition. Update: ecoATM

Another way to get cash for old smartphones is with ecoATM. ecoATM by Outerwall, Inc. allows consumers to easily trade in their device for cash as the machine does the appraising of the device for them. Consumers would just have to place their device in the test station for it to be appraised and cash will be dispensed by the machine. An iPhone 5 can go for as much as $80, $125 for an iPhone 5s, $300 for an iPhone 6 and $350 for an iPhone 6 Plus. Those using Samsung who may want to jump ship can also have their devices appraised using ecoATM. A Samsung Galaxy S5 is valued as much as $150, $225 for a Galaxy S6 and $150 for a Galaxy Note 4. These values may vary depending on the condition of the device.

Few reminders

If you’re selling your old iPhones, it would be wise to check out what the different services offer before settling on which service to sell your device. Find the service that offers more for your device so that you won’t have to spend as much to get the new iPhone.

Also, before you sell your device, make sure you backup all your data either on your computer via iTunes or using iCloud and delete all your data, especially if you have Find my iPhone turned on as it would render the device useless if it can’t be used by others. To do this, got to Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings.
