iOS 9 tips and tricks: How to share and save voicemails on iPhone in iOS 9

At one point or another, we’ve all received a voicemail we’d like to listen to over and over or share with someone else. Perhaps you’d like to keep a voicemail from a family member or spouse for sentimental reasons, or save a particularly hilarious or incriminating drunken voicemail to blackmail or rib a friend.

Given that carriers often limit the amount of storage space available for voicemails or even impose time limits on how long a voicemail can be saved before it has to be manually resaved, options for sharing and preserving voicemails have been restricted. Until now, that is.

Apple’s newly released iOS 9 now lets you share or save any voicemail directly from your Phone app via email, the Voice Memo app, text message, the Notes app, or any third-party app that supports .m4a files, including Evernote, Dropbox, and more.

How to share or save a voicemail in iOS 9 from the Phone app

  1. Open the Phone app and tap on the Voicemail tab (bottom right corner).
  2. You’ll now see a list view of all your recent voicemails. Tap on the voicemail message you want to share or save.
  3. Tap on the Share button.
  4. Select how to share the message or save it to any of the listed available apps.

Now you can preserve voicemail messages precious to you or simply have a bit of fun embarrassing your friends.
