Splunking in the cloud and on-premise | #splunkconf

The diversity of Splunk, Inc.’s user base, the ramifications of the Internet Of Things networking and the cloud/on-premise hybridization of Splunk’s usability were all topics of discussion on day 2 of Splunk’s .conf2015 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Marc Olesen, the SVP and GM of cloud solutions for Splunk, sat down with John Furrier and Jeff Frick, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, to cover these high-interest issues being discussed at the conference, as well as other topics.

Operations and data

“We couldn’t be more excited with the growth we’re seeing,” Olesen said, and with Splunk’s business tripling over the past nine months, it’s easy to see why that’s the case. “Our customers are here to interact with us and learn what we’re doing,” he added, acknowledging a continuing growth of interest in the services Splunk can provide, as well as the varied range of end-users from which the company had received interest.

With Splunk’s data management providing new insights into such things as latency over VoIP services, minimizing on-ground time for planes at airports and wide security interests, both sides of the interview table felt that Splunk’s prospects for expansion were very good.

Seamless hybrid

Another major point of interest was Splunk’s “seamless hybrid” of in-cloud and on-premise access to the data being managed for each customer, with interaction and integration of the two allowed or restricted according to the customer’s choice. Users with needs fitting within 20 gigabytes, as well as larger operations deploying several terabytes per day, are making use of this flexibility to meet their needs, with Olesen stating that the size of the customer didn’t make a difference to Splunk’s providing of service.
