Smart home gadgets not getting along? Piper launches marketplace for friendly devices

As exciting as the Jetsons era sounds, today’s most promising connected devices still face the problem of interoperability. Getting smart home products from different brands to work together from a single smartphone remains a major obstacle for the Internet of Things (IoT) market, hindering us from living in a world of robot housekeepers and fully automated kitchens.

Piper_MarketplaceTo address this, Icontrol Networks, Inc. has launched the Piper Marketplace, an app that centers on Piper, the company’s all-in-one smart home security camera solution, to help you find compatible devices. With a simple tap of a button in the app, Piper owners can easily choose from a selection of compatible devices and purchase it on the spot. The idea is to save time for shoppers, and to build out the Piper ecosystem.

The Piper Marketplace is just the tip of the iceberg, as Icontrol has huge plans to make smart home shopping frictionless for consumers. Icontrol is also planning an Icontrol One Marketplace, as well as a “white label” Marketplace that can be utilized by Icontrol’s deployment customers. The white label option will be for other brands to launch similar retail outlets for compatible devices, hopefully easing the research and buying process for countless consumers interested, but also deterred by the often confusing world of connected things.
