The faces of security threats are constantly changing, and new approaches to security are innovating to keep pace with the rise of new threats. Networking and security intertwine hugely with one another, and networks continue to grow larger.
Tushar Kothari, CEO of Attivo Networks, Inc., sat down with John Furrier and Stu Miniman, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during Juniper Networks NXTWORK 2015 to discuss Attivo’s unique security solution and integration with Juniper Networks, Inc.’s products, as well as the state of security among the industry.
When asked about about hackers and breaches, Kothari said, “Assume they’re in,” because it’s only a “matter of time” until the malware infiltrates. And that’s where Kothari sees the industry failing to meet customer needs. “We’re seeing a failure in predictive technologies,” he said.
Furrier noted “hacks of epic proportion,” and Kothari pointed to the over “600 public breaches” announced this year alone. “Prevention simply isn’t enough,” Kothari stressed. “You need detection of breaches.”
In a uniquely designed security solution, Attivo provides a “detection layer,” according to Kothari. The company’s “deception-based threat detection” essentially provides fake points of attack for potential threats. These fake nodes cannot be distinguished from an actual server or targeted by malicious software or a hacker, and as a result become a point of detection. Since theoretically every detection has to be a threat by definition, it provides a “near-zero” false positive detection system. Kothari pointed to the customer deployments as evidence of its effectiveness, and he said the growing demands for security are propelling security firms forward as budgets open.
This unique approach to threat detection makes up the heart of Attivo’s entire product line, and Kothari said to expect it to become a normal part of a comprehensive, scaleable security solution in the next “12 to 18 months.” The tight integration now with Juniper’s product line is also a testament to what the company is doing to transform the way security is implemented and systems are secured.
