Blue Coat integrates CASB, ATP and WAF for a more secure enterprise web gateway
Enterprise security firm Blue Coat Systems, Inc. has introduced a new set of cloud generation products and features to its Security Platform that integrate essential components required for protecting enterprises in an ever increasingly difficult IT environment.
The new capabilities are said to represent a major evolution of the Secure Web Gateway, combining Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB), Advanced Threat Protection (ATP), integrated Web Application Firewall (WAF), and encrypted traffic management (SSL) for a more advanced security product.
Adding to the new product are support from companies Blue Coat has acquired this year, including Elastica’s CloudSOCTM capabilities and well as encryption and tokenization technology from Perspecsys.
Combined into Blue Coat’s Cloud Generation Gateway the products now form the foundation of the Blue Coat Security Platform.
The new platform includes five new product offerings:
- CASB Visibility and Access Security that extends the Secure Web Gateway to deliver comprehensive cloud application risk management capabilities
- A new Cloud Data Protection product that is said to deliver market-leading tokenization and encryption to ensure data residency compliance and security while allowing customers to maintain complete control of their data as they use cloud applications.
- A new model of Advanced Secure Gateway which delivers consolidated content analysis for ATP, combining anti-virus scanning, whitelisting, static code analysis and orchestration for sandbox analysis.
- Cloud Generation Intelligence Services which provide risk intelligence for web, cloud applications, files, and advanced threats through the use of data from Blue Coat’s Global Intelligence Network.
- Integrated WAF that is said to deliver third generation capabilities for protecting inbound application services for organizationally owned data center and cloud applications.
“Massive shifts in usage of cloud applications and services are driving dramatic new requirements that are begging for a new approach to security,” Blue Coat President and Chief Operating Officer Michael Fey said in a statement sent to SiliconANGLE. “As organizations rethink how they secure in the cloud age, it is important that they not only protect and control interactions with cloud applications, but have an easily extensible and elastic solution.
“The current trend offered by niche vendors forces customers into a situation where they have spread a single cloud interaction by a user across multiple solutions and multiple clouds. Doing so injects complexity, delay and ambiguity into their defensive posture, which is not a viable option. The Blue Coat Security Platform and our Cloud Generation capabilities deliver customers a new and unprecedented level of security and integration in this cloud age.”
Evolving security
In a year when hackers have attacked leading companies and even Government departments the need for improved threat analysis and protection tools remains more vital than ever in an evolving security environment.
The embrace of cloud services in the enterprise has changed tradition network security perimeters, along with an increase in 4G, remote working capability, and now even the emergence of Internet of Things (IoT) connect devices delivering further challenges today and into the future.
Blue Coat is aiming to cater specifically to enterprises looking for better tools that facilitate cloud data security while still maintaining data residency and compliance by offering bleeding edge security tools for the modern enterprise.
“The best way to effectively protect these devices is via Cloud Generation Gateways, which can broker the interactions these devices have with the world around them,” the company notes. “Doing so allows organizations to perform in-depth inspection and gain complete visibility, even when endpoint security cannot be used.”
