Best TV deals for Super Bowl 50: Amazon, Costco and more | #SB50

Despite popular belief, Super Bowl season is the right time to buy a new television, not Black Friday.

Between January to March is the ideal time to purchase a new TV, with the conclusion of the Consumer Electronics Show where the newest television sets have been announced, prompting retailers to clear shelves of old merchandise. That can be a good thing for Super Bowl party hosts, who will obviously want the biggest, best quality TV in time for the big game.

But before you head on out to purchase a new TV, check out some of these tips so you’ll know what size is good for you, and even the type of TV you should buy.

Size matters

seating distanceOf course size matters when it comes to television sets. Most TVs now offer 4K resolution and if this is what you’re hoping to purchase, you also need to consider the size of your space.

A 40” 4K TV is good for watching when you’re at a distance of 5’3”, 6’5” for a 50”, 7’8” for a 60”, and 9’2” for a 70” TV. A small TV in a very large room not only looks ridiculous, but you’re likely to have a miserable time watching your favorite show. However, a big TV in a small room may also look strange, but it’s seldom people complain about having a big TV to watch.

Should you go for a smartTV?

SmartTVs have different features than older TV sets. Among other things, they allow for Internet access which means you can browse or even update your Facebook status while watching, as well as stream your favorite shows.

If you love streaming shows and you don’t have a Roku, Apple TV or Chromecast set top player, most smart TVs have built-in streaming apps which means after buying the TV you just have to set up your respective streaming service accounts and start watching.

But if you already own streaming devices like the ones mentioned above, and you don’t care for browsing the Internet while watching your favorite shows, then you can skip the smartTV and go for more reasonably priced UHDTVs. By not purchasing an expensive SmartTV, you can go for a bigger screen with better display.
