Taking to the Cloud for a 360-degree view of the customer | #HS16Dublin

The Hadoop Summit in Dublin is a major conference for the European Big Data community. Right after the Day One keynote, John Furrier (@furrier) and Dave Vellante (@dvellante), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, sat down to discuss the keynote talks and the direction of Big Data for this conference.

The theme was the Cloud and what that meant for innovation and service. The conversation opened with Vellante pointing out that, presently, large professional Big Data service providers were dominant in the industry, but he expected that to change in a few years.

Following the action

Furrier added that the Cloud was the big driver for innovation in this space. The confluence of what’s in the Cloud, he said, is going to drive new ideas from the big companies. The Cloud, he stated, is where the action is.

Vellante then mentioned the concept of a 360-degree view of the customer and how companies are trying to get that kind of view. Furrier replied that the traditional world was not up to the challenge and that data warehouses couldn’t do the job. The new digital world, he said, can make such a view possible. New data and connected data is the focus, according to Furrier.

Building the community

Furrier also brought up the importance of community to new technology development. Ecosystem, he said, is a major part of accelerating innovation. The community, he continued, has to be factored into all aspects of development.

For Vellante, this brought up a question: Can the big companies deliver on the promise of a 360-degree view of the customer? Or, he asked, will smaller businesses with community support take on that role?
