Can you use Hadoop to teach old IT new tricks? | #HS16Dublin

What we all love about IT is the pace of change and innovation that keeps it exciting; what we don’t love are the constant growing pains that come with adopting the changes, the expenses, the worry that this year’s infrastructure won’t support tomorrow’s new advances. So a solution that can weave new technology into existing infrastructure is always preferable to total overhaul. Joe Goldberg, solutions marketing consultant of BMC Software, Inc., claims that BMC’s Control-M software for workload automation, AKA batch scheduling, is such a product.

Goldberg told John Furrier (@furrier) and Dave Vellante (@dvellante), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, that by adding native support for Hadoop, BMC has made Hadoop tools as easy to use as all the other operations a developer is already familiar with. He said that this synergy with developers is where IT should be heading.

“The traditional sort of enterprise structure where IT owns an enterprise solution and has a gate around it and they don’t let anyone outside of IT mess with it — that dynamic is significantly changing,” he explained.

The new DevOps world

What is driving the increasing cooperation between IT and enterprise, according to Goldberg, is “the need for speed and to deliver new services and this whole DevOps thing.” He said that BMC’s offering allows developers to use Hadoop without taking on cumbersome new technology.

“We are enabling developers to create workflows in Control-M using a notation that they’re familiar with,” he stated.
