Rumors are rife concerning the upcoming E3 event in June, and what Microsoft has in store for us. Last year Microsoft didn’t exactly shock us at the same event, although there is a buzz about what we are apparently going to see this year.
One of the most likely rumors to prove true is an upgrade for the Xbox One, in spite of Xbox chief Phil Spencer saying Microsoft was above a simple upgrade. “If we’re going to move forward, I want to move forward in big numbers,” said Spencer earlier this year.
Another rumor this year, and a contender for what might be revealed at E3, is an Xbox One slim. Microsoft Blogger Brad Sams said this about the scaled down version of the console: “I have heard from internal sources that the company is considering plans for a lightweight Xbox One that may only be for Windows store games and would compete with the Apple TV. But it’s not clear if these plans have been scrapped.” Phil Spencer later denied this rumor.
Tech blogger and Microsoft enthusiast Paul Thurrott weighed in on rumors saying, besides a new controller, Microsoft is also set to bring something big to the party. “The company also has something else up its sleeve that I still don’t have all the details on but it’s a much bigger deal than an updated standard controller,” said Thurrott.
Thurrott, who usually gets things right concerning Microsoft, concluded that this E3 is going to be big for Redmond.
Brad Sams says the same thing in that we will see a new controller, but we should also expect something special in hardware to appear at E3. Sams writes, “The company also has something else up its sleeve that I still don’t have all the details on but it’s a much bigger deal than an updated standard controller. While the rumours of a PS4K have been running rampant, and I don’t know yet if this new device is set to take on that console, they will have another, much larger hardware related announcement, at E3 this year.”
