The benefits of bringing ‘design thinking’ to technology | #Inforum16

If there’s a theme evolving in this year’s Inforum 2016 event being held in New York City, it’s definitely how important solid, mutually beneficial partnerships are to success.

“We came to Infor because we had a shared vision,” said Duncan Angove, president of Infor, Inc. “The investors have been there a long time, holding strong for eight years. They’re fantastic partners who have supported our transformation.” By finding a gap in the marketplace and co-innovating, the company was able to use the cloud to its advantage, resulting in a growth rate that Angove calls “very remarkable.”

Angove spoke to Dave Vellante (@dvellante) and George Gilbert (@ggilbert41), hosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during the event.

Part of that shared vision Angove talked about included putting customers and products at the core of the business from the start. From there, it involved putting a lot of the investment in research and development and cloud-based advanced analytics. “Our results are showing that this strategy was right,” said Angove.

Infor’s role in digital transformation

Bringing design thinking to technology was another gap the company found in the marketplace. Because they put designing thinking and user experience in the forefront, pretty soon customers were beyond satisfied: they wanted to mimic it for their own customers and asked for help doing so. This is where Infor’s Hook & Loop team came into play. Instead of just talking with a company’s IT department, they found themselves speaking to CEOs and helping them understand how to transform their enterprise. What kind of transformation depends on what exactly the business needs.

“Sometimes it’s creating a completely new business model, disrupting yourself. Some are looking for new revenue streams. Some transformations are just fundamentally about running better and creating a stickier customer base,” said Angove.

Whatever type of transformation a business is seeking, Infor can leverage what it already has in place. “It’s a powerful proposition,” he added.
